Massimiliano Allegri happy with AC Milan progress

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri remains confident in his ability to deliver success at the San Siro, despite heated talks over his future earlier this summer.

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has insisted that he doesn't feel under extra pressure to deliver this season, despite coming close to losing his job during the close season.

Allegri held lengthy discussions over his future in June after Milan president Silvio Berlusconi openly considered a change of coach, but eventually agreed to stay at the San Siro after a strong finish to last season.

The 46-year-old revealed that he has been in regular discussion with Berlusconi about the Rossoneri, but remains confident in his ability to build a side that can challenge Juventus in Serie A this season.

He told reporters at a pre-match press conference: "I don't feel under examination, absolutely not. Once the games that count start then a coach has to begin collecting results.

"He is in charge of the group so if things go wrong then he is the first one who is questioned. This is my fourth season at Milan and I'm happy with what I have done so far. I spoke to Berlusconi yesterday and also before the PSV Eindhoven game. We often speak and we are all close to him during this difficult time.

"I don't know if we are stronger than last season. Juventus are still Scudetto favourites, but the championship is a long one. We've been working together for a year and we now know each other better. The players need to grow, as does the team as a collective."

Milan began their campaign with a 1-1 draw at PSV in the first leg of a Champions League qualifier, with a Serie A opener against Hellas Verona next up on Saturday.
