A Lionel Messi hattrick seals a stunning win for Argentina over Brazil in New York.

Lionel Messi netted a hattrick as Argentina overcame South American rivals Brazil in an entertaining friendly in New York.

Brazil, who were captained by Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro, began well and opened the scoring after 23 minutes as Romulo latched onto Neymar's clever free kick before firing home from 12 yards.

Messi then turned the match on its head with two superb individual goals within three minutes of each other.

Oscar levelled the scores 11 minutes after the break following wonderful interplay with Internacional teammate Leandro Damiao.

Hulk put Brazil back ahead following an awful goalkeeping error from Romero 18 minutes from time, but Federico Fernandez headed home a Sergio Aguero corner to restore parity four minutes later.

With five minutes remaining, Messi sealed his hattrick, and the win, by cutting in from the right and unleashing a stunning long-range strike that soared past Rafael into the top corner.

Ezequiel Lavezzi and Marcelo were both shown contentious red cards in stoppage time following an altercation between the duo.
