Arjen Robben: 'Bayern Munich deserved to reach quarter-finals'

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben insists that the champions fully deserved to knock out Arsenal in the Champions League.

Arjen Robben has insisted that Bayern Munich deserved to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League after knocking out Arsenal.

The defending champions drew 1-1 with the Gunners at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night to secure a 3-1 aggregate triumph, and Robben believes that there can be no arguments with the outcome of the last-16 tie.

"They have a very good team," the Dutch winger told Sky Sports News. "They have a lot of quality on the pitch. The main thing for us was to keep possession and control the game.

"When we scored it looked like we were in a comfortable position but then they scored. I think it was a deserved draw but also deserved that we go through to the quarter-finals."

Bayern are aiming to become the first team to retain the trophy since the competition was changed to the Champions League format in 1992.
