Arsenal overcome Napoli

First-half goals from Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud prove enough for Arsenal to overcome Napoli 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

Mesut Ozil broke the deadlock at the Emirates Stadium after just eight minutes when he guided an Aaron Ramsey pass from the edge of the box into the top corner of the net.

Seven minutes later Olivier Giroud doubled the Gunners' advantage when he collected Ozil's pass and slammed it home from just yards out after Napoli had given away the ball cheaply.

However, Arsenal could have conceded midway through the first half had Miguel Britos been able to keep his close-range header on target.

Arsene Wenger's side dominated the remainder of the half but failed to add another goal.

The hosts had a good chance to wrap up the game as a contest a minute into the second half, but Giroud and Tomas Rosicky failed to combine properly with each other.

Arsenal continued to ask questions of the Napoli defence and went close to making it 3-0 in the 76th minute when Laurent Koscielny directed an effort towards goal, but goalkeeper Pepe Reina made a good save.
