Arsenal ace cleared to represent United States

Germany-born Arsenal youngster Gedion Zelalem wins eligibility to represent the USA at international level.

Arsenal starlet Gedion Zelalem has been cleared to represent the United States' national team.

The Germany-born forward, 18, had represented the country of his birth at Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 level but is now eligible for America, where he moved in 2006.

Zelalem will now join the States' squad for the upcoming Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand this summer, confirmed US Soccer president Sunil Gulati.

He wrote on Twitter: "Pleased to report that Gedion Zelalem has been cleared by #FIFA to represent @ussoccer."

Zelalem was also eligible to represent Ethiopia.
