Arsenal are currently enduring their worst start to a league campaign since the 1974-75 season following Wednesday's draw with Southampton at the Emirates.

Arsenal have endured their worst start to a top-flight campaign for 46 years following their draw with Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Former Gunner Theo Walcott returned to haunt his old club with a first-half opener, but some brilliant work from Bukayo Saka ended with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ending his goal drought as Arsenal claimed a point on their own turf.

Mikel Arteta's 10 men ensured that they did not suffer a fifth league defeat on the bounce at home, but Arsenal nevertheless languish in 15th in the table - just five points clear of the drop zone.

With 14 points accrued from 13 matches, Arteta has overseen Arsenal's worst start to a league season since the 1974-75 campaign, where they had only amassed nine points at this stage.

Furthermore, Walcott's opener on Wednesday means that the Gunners' defence has now been breached in 10 consecutive Premier League home matches for the first time since February 2002, although Arsenal did go on to win the league that year.

Arteta's men now face a trip to Everton at the weekend before they play host to Chelsea on Boxing Day.
