Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: 'Arsenal good for England'

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain compares Arsenal's English influence to the impact of Real Madrid and Barcelona on the Spanish national team.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has claimed that Arsenal can have a similar influence on the England team to the one Barcelona and Real Madrid have had on Spain.

The 21-year-old featured in the Three Lions' victory over San Marino on Thursday alongside club colleagues Danny Welbeck, Jack Wilshere, Calum Chambers and Kieran Gibbs – the first time since 1934 that five Gunners have lined up for the national side.

However, Oxlade-Chamberlain is adamant that the North London club's impact is comparable with La Liga's best.

He told The Mirror: "Spain have a big influence from Real Madrid and Barcelona. When you go and watch Spain play it's almost like watching Barca or Real at times, with the number of players they have on the pitch.

"It is a nice thing to have that with Arsenal at the moment. You do notice a lot more of an English presence around the club, it's hard not to. It's a nice thing as an English lad myself.

"You know all the foreign boys in our team are really good, but it's really nice to see a lot of great English players in our team and then coming away for the internationals."

Oxlade-Chamberlain made his England debut against Norway in the run-up to Euro 2012.
