Andrey Arshavin ready for first-team chance at Arsenal

Arsenal forward Andrey Arshavin insists that he can still have a positive impact on the first team after making a scoring return against Coventry City in midweek.

Arsenal forward Andrey Arshavin has insisted that he will be ready when called upon to have an impact on the first-team this season.

Arshavin started and scored for the Gunners in their 6-1 Capital One Cup win over Coventry City in midweek.

The Russian has only made a solitary substitute appearance in the Premier League so far this campaign, but told Arsenal's official programme that he feels fit and raring to go.

He said: "This summer I felt very good physically, it's true. All of my exercise, especially the endurance side, has gone better than ever. We'll find out how important that's been when I'm playing.

"It's been very difficult for me, my first time in this position, really. Of course I really want to be playing, but I still try to keep in as good a condition as possible and I hope I'll have more chances soon. It was very good to score against Coventry, I enjoyed that.

"My aim is to be part of it, to play football and focus on Arsenal. I think that, if I have the chance, I can do well."

Arshavin has also been left out in the cold by new Russia manager Fabio Capello in a difficult summer for the diminutive playmaker.
