Arsenal chairman Sir Chips Keswick says that the board are "confident" in Arsene Wenger taking the club forward, but are not 'focusing' on the manager's contract.

Arsenal chairman Sir Chips Keswick has claimed that the board are "confident" that manager Arsene Wenger can continue to take the club forward, but have not yet made a decision regarding a new contract.

The Frenchman, who recently celebrated his 20-year anniversary since taking over at the North London club, comes to the end of his current deal next summer.

Wenger previously expressed fear of retirement, but neither he nor the club have revealed whether or not the 67-year-old will remain in charge next season.

"We all recognise the fantastic contribution Arsene has made to club in last 20 years," Sir Keswick said while answering questions during Arsenal's AGM.

"We are confident about his ability to take us forward. We will sit down and discuss the future at the appropriate time but our focus is on maintaining the current run and competing for trophies."

Wenger has guided Arsenal to nine trophies, including three Premier League titles, during his time at the club.
