Freddie Ljungberg: 'Tottenham Hotspur gave Arsenal a tactical lesson'

Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg admits that Tottenham Hotspur and Jose Mourinho won the tactical battle in Sunday's North London derby.

Former Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur tactically outclassed the Gunners in Sunday's North London derby.

Mikel Arteta's men were allowed time on the ball as Spurs defended deep for the majority of the game, with two counter-attacks from Jose Mourinho's men seeing Son Heung-min and Harry Kane find the back of the net in a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Ljungberg - who was placed in temporary charge of Arsenal before Arteta arrived - has conceded that Mourinho got it spot on and offered his congratulations to the Gunners' bitter rivals.

"I haven't recovered yet," Ljungberg said in quotes attributed to The Mirror. "It was tough but Mourinho gave us a lesson in how to play a tactical game.

"It was interesting but it still hurts. I thought Spurs, I didn't think they would be that far ahead or top of the league to be honest.

"But you look at Mourinho, he's got them inspired, his players are all doing what he wants them to do, which I think is the hardest thing when you play the kind of football he does. Hats off to him, they're doing really, really well."

Arsenal's defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium sees them languish in 15th after 11 matches, whereas Spurs currently lead the way in the top flight.
