Alan Smith thinks that Arsenal need to be wary of Robin van Persie leaving the club.

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith thinks that Robin van Persie could still leave the Emirates Stadium, unless the Gunners have a successful season.

The Dutchman has been in strong form this season with 21 goals in 22 appearances for the North London club.

Despite the 28-year-old's commitment to his current contract, the striker has delayed signing a new deal with Arsene Wenger's side.

"The wage cap and ambition will play a part in him staying," Smith told talkSPORT. "If Arsenal don't finish in the top four that will be a big part of his thinking."

The Gunners take on Fulham on home turf in the Premier League this weekend after qualifying to the final 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
