Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that Mesut Ozil's discipline on the pitch is not the greatest, with the midfielder's future at the Emirates looking bleak.

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that Mesut Ozil does not have the best discipline on the pitch following the midfielder's recent woes at the Emirates Stadium.

The ex-Real Madrid man has cut a frustrated figure in North London over the past few months and has been left out of Mikel Arteta's squad for the Europa League group stage.

Ozil has not featured for the Gunners since their victory over West Ham United in March - before the coronavirus lockdown - and Wenger has claimed that the 31-year-old's discipline is not the strongest aspect of his game.

"He wasn't exactly the one with the greatest discipline on the pitch," Wenger told Der Speigel.

"And playing the game without the ball wasn't exactly his forte. But you can deal with that if you put some more defensively minded players by his side. The main thing is to get the balance between attack and defence right."

Ozil is out of contract at the Emirates next summer and has announced his desire to remain in North London until his deal runs out, with the playmaker reportedly turning down a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia despite seemingly having no future with Arsenal.
