Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says that he made a "mistake" by not addressing his future during last season.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is to blame for the constant speculation that surrounded his future during last season.

The Frenchman was asked by reporters on a regular basis whether he planned to stay or leave the Emirates, but he refrained from making an announcement until the end of the season.

Some fans staged protests calling for Wenger to leave the club, but he ended up extending his tenure by two years.

"For me, [this season] will be a change because [rumours over my future] was a bit eternal, a repetition of the press conferences about that," Wenger told Arsenal's official website. "Maybe I made a mistake and allowed that to happen because I didn't commit early enough.

"I think at some stage I did not think it would be a handicap for my commitment and it was not. But it was a bit of a handicap because it created a climate of insecurity and a lack of clarity about my person that maybe did not help at some stage."

In this transfer window, the Gunners have brought in Saed Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette.
