Arsene Wenger: FA Cup win proves Arsenal are "mentally strong"

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger hits back at criticism of his side, stating that the club's winning the FA Cup proves that they are a "mentally strong" team.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has insisted that his side are "mentally strong" amid criticism from television pundits.

The Gunners have been maligned by former Manchester United defender Gary Neville for lacking grit and determination to be successful across all four major competitions.

However, Wenger believes that his side's triumph in the FA Cup last season proves that they have the character to compete with the best teams in Europe.

He told beIN Sport: "Opinions for me have to be documented. We won the Cup last year. You don't win the [FA] Cup unless you are mentally strong, believe me. That's why I don't agree with that.

"You have to respect everybody's opinion. Pundits are just people who are filmed by a camera and give their opinion and you have to accept that.

"But if a pundit gives an opinion and is not right in six months, nobody will come back and say, 'well, why did you say that six months ago? You were completely wrong'."

Arsenal have not won the Premier League since the 2003-04 campaign.
