Arsene Wenger considers resting Van Persie

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that he is considering resting Robin Van Persie for one of Arsenal's upcoming matches.

Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is considering resting Robin Van Persie for one of Arsenal's festive fixtures.

The Gunners manager and his squad face three games in a week, starting with home ties against Wolves and Queens Park Rangers before travelling to Fulham next Monday.

This busy spell has caused Wenger to contemplate resting his star striker, who has had lengthy injury spells during his time in London.

"Can he start three games in seven days? We will see. It will be a big demand for him. I don't know yet, we will assess the situation after every game," Wenger said.

"You get his vibes, the medical vibes and you know the history with him. Then you make a decision."

The Dutchman has netted 34 times in 2011 and requires two further goals to equal Alan Shearer's tally of 36 in a calender year.
