Arsenal have reportedly overtaken Real Madrid in the race to sign Lille forward Jonathan David, who has been strongly linked with a move away from the French outfit.
The 22-year-old has netted 16 times along with registering two assists across all competitions for Lille this season, stats which have highlighted his name to many top European sides.
Mikel Arteta is believed to be targeting a striker in the summer transfer window, following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's departure for Barcelona in January.
According to Sport Witness, the Gunners will make a strong bid for the Canadian international, while Los Blancos are only likely to make an approach for David if they are to fail with their bid for Borussia Dortmund's Erling Braut Haaland.
Arsenal have scored the fewest number of goals out of the Premier League's top six so far this campaign, but with a strong defensive record, Arteta will be keen to add to his attacking options to aim for a top-four finish for sure next season.
David arrived at Lille in 2020 and has gone on to score 29 goals in 83 appearances, while he still has a long-term contract with the Ligue 1 side, running until 2025.
