Arsenal are determined to bring a new holding midfielder to the club during this summer's transfer window, according to a report.

Arsenal have reportedly made signing a new holding midfielder 'a priority' this summer.

The Gunners are expected to be active ahead of the 2020-21 campaign as they attempt to become a team capable of challenging for the major honours once again.

A number of attacking players - including Real Madrid pair Luka Jovic and James Rodriguez - have been linked with potential move to the Emirates Stadium during this summer's transfer window.

However, according to The Sun, the London club are determined to sign a new defensive midfielder as head coach Mikel Arteta looks to provide protection for his defence.

Meanwhile, the report claims that Arteta believes that bringing an anchorman to the club would help get the best out of Mesut Ozil, who has only scored one Premier League goal this season.

Newcastle United's Matty Longstaff has recently been linked with a move to the Gunners.
