Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is reportedly hopeful of signing Brahim Diaz in the summer, with AC Milan struggling to get the money together needed to buy him.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reportedly asked the board to take a punt on midfielder Brahim Diaz when the transfer window opens in the summer.

The Real Madrid man has been on loan at AC Milan for the past three seasons, and scored the all-important goal which saw the Rossoneri beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League last 16.

The Spaniard also featured regularly for Stefano Pioli's side last season as Milan won the Scudetto for the first time in 11 years.

However, Football London claim that Arsenal could swoop in and agree a deal for the player with Milan struggling to put together the finances to meet the £18m activation clause in his loan deal.

Arteta sees the player in a similar mould to Martin Odegaard, who has since become captain of the club and an instrumental factor behind their Premier League title charge this season.

Odegaard was signed from Real Madrid permanently two years ago after also struggling to make an impact in the Spanish capital, and Arteta reportedly sees Diaz as a player who is capable of the same sort of trajectory.

They may need to fend off interest from other Premier League clubs with hefty financial backing though, as both Chelsea and Newcastle United are said to be in for the player as well.
