Arsenal winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan refuses to rule out returning to the club and fighting for a place under Mikel Arteta when his loan spell at Roma ends this summer.

Arsenal winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan has refused to rule out the possibility of returning to the club when his loan deal at Roma expires this summer.

The 31-year-old has spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan with the Serie A outfit, where he has scored six goals and provided three assists in 13 league appearances.

Roma are keen to make Mkhitaryan's deal permanent but are not willing to meet Arsenal's asking price for the attacker after being quoted around £22m for a player in his 30s.

The Armenia international has admitted that he prefers the style of play under Roma boss Paulo Fonseca to the one implemented by Unai Emery at Arsenal, but Mikel Arteta is now in charge at the Emirates Stadium and Mkhitaryan suggested that a return to fight for his place under the new boss is still possible.

"When I was at Arsenal, I had different things asked from me by the coach, people were expecting different things from here. The philosophy of Emery was different from Fonseca, but here I'm feeling much better because we're playing better football and I think it matched me," he told The Times.

"I prefer Fonseca's football because we're playing very offensively, we're trying to have the ball all the time here and of course I like this kind of game.

"I can't say anything at the moment because the season is stopped, we don't know when we'll start playing again and what will happen in the summer. Football changes so quickly. One day you're here, the other you're there. You never know what can happen and what will happen with you."

Mkhitaryan has made 59 appearances for Arsenal in total, scoring nine goals and creating 13.
