Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce thinks that Brentford's Neal Maupay should have been sent off for a "horrible stamp" on John McGinn.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has described Neal Maupay's challenge on John McGinn as "horrible" and "malicious".

Maupay netted twice as Brentford earned a 2-2 draw at Villa Park, but the forward was fortunate not to be sent off after appearing to stamp on McGinn during the closing stages of the first half.

The incident was missed by the referee, but Bruce has admitted that the tackle had soured his feeling over the result having witnessed his team twice fight back to claim a share of the spoils.

Bruce told BBC WM: "It was a horrible stamp on John McGinn and their lad should have been sent off. I know how difficult it is for referees and I never want to see anyone red carded, but I am sure they will look at it.

"A malicious stamp on purpose sticks in the back of your throat, especially when that player scores twice."

Villa sit in fifth place in the second-tier standings after the draw in the West Midlands.
