Aston Villa are reportedly determined to hold talks with Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez regarding the vacant managerial position at the club.
The Spaniard is thought to be a strong contender for the Liverpool job, but reports have claimed that Villa owner Randy Lerner will try to approach the former Swansea City coach.
It is understood that the American businessman is confident that Martinez will meet with him to discuss a potential move, according to sportinglife.com.
Norwich City's Paul Lambert emerged as the favourite to become Alex McLeish's successor after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turned down the job following discussions.
Despite Lambert's position with the bookmakers, it is believed that Villa are interested in Martinez's attractive style of football and won't give up on their pursuit of the 38-year-old.
