Aston Villa reportedly identify young Belgian forward Christian Benteke as one of their top transfer targets before Friday's deadline.

Aston Villa have reportedly identified Genk frontman Christian Benteke as one of their top transfer targets this week.

The summer window shuts on Friday evening and Villa boss Paul Lambert is believed to be looking to strengthen his squad after a slow start to the Premier League.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Villa scouts have watched 21-year-old Benteke on a number of occasions and will now step up their pursuit of the Congo-born striker, who represents Belgium and has featured at Under-21 level.

Benteke, who is 6'3" tall, has three years left on his contract with the Belgian outfit.
