Atalanta had an effort on goal in the first minute through Denis, but his shot was well saved.

Gonzalo Bergessio worked himself a yard to get a shot away on 11 minutes, although the home side's defence was alert and closed down well.

Denis came forward for Atalanta once again on 25 minutes, but he could not find the target with his shot.

The home side nearly took the lead on 45 minutes, but Denis's strike went far too wide.

Francesco Lodi had the first chance of the second half, but he could not give Catania the lead with his strike on goal.

Giacomo Bonaventura drove his side forward as the game headed into the late stages; the midfielder had two efforts on goal but could not find the finish with either.
