Luca Toni had a chance to give the visitors the lead but saw his effort go wide of the post, before Juan Iturbe's strike was saved by Andrea Consigli.

Massimo Donati fired Verona ahead in the 53rd minute with a powerful half-volley from outside the box that left Consigli with no chance.

They doubled their lead in the 72nd minute through Toni, who finished from close range following Iturbe's driving run into the box.

Atalanta pulled a goal back with three minutes of the match left when German Denis tapped home following a free kick, but the visitors held on stay within reach of the final Europa League spot.
