A Radomel Falcao hat-trick gives Atletico Madrid a commanding half-time lead in the European Super Cup.

Champions League winners Chelsea find themselves three goals behind against Europa League champions Atletico Madrid at half-time in Monaco.

A first-half hat-trick from Radomel Falcao has all but finished Chelsea off in the European Super Cup.

The game was barely three-and-a-half minutes old before the first real chance. Atletico's prolific striker Radomel Falcao blasted the ball against the bar from six yards out after good play from Felipe Luis.

The Colombian was not to be denied for long though; two minutes later he beat the offside trap before chipping the ball over the oncoming Petr Cech to give the Spanish side the lead.

Atletico began to dominate possession after that, with Luis and Arda Turan causing problems on the left-hand side.

It wasn't long before their possession told. Falcao again found space, this time on the right of the box, before cutting inside and curling a shot past Cech.

It was nearly 3-0 on 28 minutes when a lightning-quick Atletico counter-attack allowed Gabi to shoot from 10 yards out, but Cech saved well.

The Spaniards had another chance 10 minutes later, when Falcao missed a glorious chance for his hat-trick, heading against the post from close range.

He did score his third just before half-time though, when another Atletico counter-attack gave Chelsea problems and the striker fired past Cech.

Chelsea have got a lot of work to do if they are to turn this match around.
