Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has backed Saul Niguez to take on the challenge of replacing Tiago in the first XI.
Tiago is expected to be on the sidelines for at least the next three months after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured leg.
Simeone, however, has claimed that 21-year-old Saul has the credentials needed to take the Portuguese's place in the middle of the park.
"We have Saul, Koke and Gabi in Tiago's position. Saul has absolutely everything – passing, intensity, a good outlet and goals," Simeone told reporters.
"He needs to play with emotional balance and intensity, but we only demand these things of him because we want him to grow. We hope he has a good match in Granada.
"He doesn't need to be like Tiago. Each player has their own characteristics and qualities, and what we try to do is empower them. The team try to take advantage of each player."
Atletico, who currently sit second in the La Liga table, will continue their league campaign against Granada on Saturday evening.
