Atletico Madrid confirm Rodri Hernandez move

Atletico Madrid confirm that they have agreed to re-sign Spanish midfielder Rodri Hernandez from Villarreal.

Atletico Madrid have confirmed that they have agreed to re-sign Spanish midfielder Rodri Hernandez from Villarreal.

Rodri spent six years with Atletico before joining Villarreal in 2013, and the 21-year-old has gone on to make 80 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Villarreal president Fernando Roig recently criticised the manner of Atletico's approach, but the deal has now gone through, with the midfielder signing a five-year contract at the Wanda Metropolitano.

"Our club has reached an agreement with Villarreal over the transfer of Rodri. The midfielder will be an Atletico player starting 1 July on a five-year-contract," read a statement on Atletico's official website.

Atletico have also described Rodri as "a very talented midfielder, with excellent positioning and aerial play".

Rodri made his Spain debut back in March, but has not been included in the La Roja squad for the 2018 World Cup.
