Mile Jedinak ruled out of Oman Asia Cup clash

Australia manager Ange Postecoglou reveals that captain Crystal Palace's Mile Jedinak will sit out their Asia Cup clash against Oman after picking up an ankle injury.

Australia captain Mile Jedinak will miss his side's Asia Cup meeting against Oman due to an ankle injury.

The 24-year-old Crystal Palace midfielder, who scored from the spot in the Socceroos' opening-game victory over Kuwait on Friday, suffered the damage while jumping for a header.

Despite seeing out the remainder of the 4-1 win, manager Ange Postecoglou has taken the decision to leave Jedinak out of the squad for Australia's next match.

"We've decided to rule Mile out of the Oman game after he copped an ankle injury against Kuwait," he said in a statement. "He's not quite right to play and at this stage of the tournament we are better to give it a few days extra rest and we will reassess where he's at for the game against Korea Republic.

"While it is not ideal for Mile to miss the game I'm confident we have the players and depth to be able to cover for not having him out there.

"We worked hard on increasing our depth over the last six months leading into the Asian Cup and that has us in a good position to be able to cover for the loss of a player of Mile's calibre."

Mark Milligan is expected to come into the team for Tuesday's Group A encounter.
