Roma forward Edin Dzeko says that "the result is a liar" after his side suffered a 4-1 defeat to Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Roma forward Edin Dzeko has claimed that his side did not deserve to suffer a 4-1 defeat to Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Barcelona moved into a two-goal advantage courtesy of own goals, before Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez added further strikes during the second half of the game at Camp Nou.

Roma were also denied a possible penalty during the early stages of the fixture, and Dzeko feels that the Italian giants should have gotten more reward for their efforts in Spain.

The 32-year-old told Roma TV: "The result is definitely a liar. We deserved more, but if you make too many mistakes they'll punish you. You can't afford three own goals against Barcelona.

"If you lose 4-1, it's hard to say you played well. We definitely could have done better, but the referee has to give the penalty at 0-0.

"We pressed as always, the first goal changed everything because it came out of nowhere, they're a team with players who will punish you with half a chance."

Dzeko netted a late away goal for Roma ahead of the second leg at the Stadio Olimpico, which will take place on Tuesday.
