Barcelona have reportedly ended their attempt to complete a deal for Valencia forward Rodrigo Moreno.
Newly-appointed boss Quique Setien is keen to find a short-term replacement for Luis Suarez, who is sidelined until May with a knee injury.
Earlier on Tuesday, it was claimed that Barcelona were prepared to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes and loan him to Valencia in a bid to bring in Rodrigo on a temporary basis.
However, according to reports in Spain, there is now no prospect of a positive resolution being reached before the end of the January transfer window.
With Manchester United said to be the frontrunners for Fernandes, Barcelona have opted to shelve their plans to sign Rodrigo due to being unwilling to meet Valencia's £50.8m release clause.
The La Liga giants will now reassess their options before focusing their attention on another target.
