Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze has admitted that his team were far from their best as they played out a goalless draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
The German champions struggled to create any clear openings and they ended the night with 10 men following the dismissal of Xabi Alonso on his 100th Champions League appearance.
"We had some problems in attack today," Gotze told UEFA.com. "We weren't able to play, as we expected.
"But there is still a second game, though little details will be decisive. It would have been great, if we had scored today."
The second leg will take place at the Allianz Arena on March 11.
