Mario Gomez vows to stick by his game, despite facing criticism for his performance in Germany's victory over Portugal at the weekend.

Germany and Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has responded to critics by claiming that his goalscoring record speaks for itself.

The 26-year-old came under fire from former Germany midfielder Mehmet Scholl for his performance in the national side's 1-0 win over Portugal on Saturday, despite Gomez netting the winner.

"I have been the most successful striker in the country over the last five or six years," The Express quotes Gomez as saying. "And, after [Lionel] Messi, I have scored the most goals in the Champions League. I would like to know why I should change."

Germany will go head to head with the Netherlands tomorrow for their second Group B clash.
