Experienced defender Carlos Cuellar is no longer training with Blackburn Rovers, managed Gary Bowyer has revealed.
The former Sunderland, Aston Villa and Rangers centre-back, a free agent, had been on trial with the Championship club, but has now left to explore other options.
Goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown will not be signing for Rovers either, having been offered a contract elsewhere, but Bowyer has hinted that a defensive arrival could still be imminent, with Jordan Spence, who was released by West Ham United at the end of last season, having joined them for pre-season.
"Jordan Spence is still here, Carlos was just training with us and now he's not training with us, while Jamie Ashdown was subject to an offer from another club and I think he's gone to try and sort that out," Bowyer said in the Lancashire Telegraph.
"We're not blessed with many defenders and it's been a good opportunity for us to have a look at Jordan.
"He's been up all week and we need to see him in another game. Hopefully we can get that sorted and take it from there."
Spence spent seven loan spells away from Upton Park before his contract expired earlier this summer.
