Amir Khan is hoping that Fabrice Muamba can recover in time to sit ringside for the boxer's rematch with Lamont Peterson.
Khan, a Bolton Wanderers fan, takes on the American at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on May 19.
The 24-year-old said that he only spoke to Muamba a few weeks ago and the 23-year-old told him he was travelling to the US to watch him fight.
"I know Fabrice quite well and it would be fantastic to see him at ringside," said the 2004 Olympic silver medallist. "I've met him out in Bolton numerous times and also at the club training ground.
"The last time I saw him was actually only a few weeks ago in Manchester and he came over and hugged me. We chatted and he said that he was going to come over to Las Vegas for my next fight. He's a very nice guy and to see that happen is so sad.
"I've been constantly checking for updates on Fabrice and I heard the news he is talking a little bit which is brilliant to hear."
Muamba is now said to be laughing and joking with teammates as he recovers in hospital.
