Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski was reportedly close to signing for Blackburn Rovers from Lech Poznan in 2010.

Borussia Dortmund star Robert Lewandowski was reportedly close to signing for Blackburn Rovers during the summer transfer window of 2010.

The Poland international has moved into the spotlight after becoming the first player to hit four Champions League goals against Real Madrid in last night's 4-1 victory for Dortmund in the semi-final first leg.

While the 24-year-old has been heavily linked with Manchester United and Bayern Munich, reports have claimed that he could have signed for Blackburn from Lech Poznan three years ago for £4.3m.

The striker was due to hold talks with then Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce, but the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud prevented the player from travelling to the UK, according to BBC Sport.

The hitman's current contract with the Bundesliga club expires at the end of next season.
