Half-Time Report: Bournemouth in control against Charlton Athletic

Bournemouth produce a superb first-half display to open up a 2-0 advantage against Charlton Athletic at The Valley.

Goals from Matt Ritchie and Harry Arter have given Bournemouth a 2-0 lead at half time in their fixture with Charlton Athletic.

Bournemouth were aware that they realistically required three points to give themselves a chance of winning the Championship title, and they quickly showed their intent through Callum Wilson, who forced a solid block out of Stephen Henderson.

Moments later, the Cherries went in front through Ritchie, who curled the ball into the far corner after it had been teed up for him on the edge of the penalty area.

It took just two minutes for Bournemouth to double their lead when Arter capitalised on a mistake in the Addicks defence before calmly slotting the ball past Henderson from 12 yards.

There was no let-up from the visitors who continued to push for a third. After a goal-bound effort from Wilson was blocked by Roger Johnson, Simon Francis drilled a shot marginally wide of the post.

Charlton improved as the half drew to a close, but they couldn't halve the deficit as Bournemouth kept the pressure on leaders Watford at the top of the standings.
