Thiago Silva issues apology to Brazil supporters

Thiago Silva apologises to Brazil's supporters after the hosts were beaten 3-0 by Netherlands in the third-place playoff.

Thiago Silva has issued an apology to Brazil's supporters after the host nation ended their World Cup campaign with another disappointing performance.

Luiz Felipe Scolari's side were no match for the Netherlands as they followed their embarrassing 7-1 semi-final defeat to Germany by being beaten 3-0 in the third-place playoff, and Silva refused to blame the fans for booing the team on Saturday night.

"I barely slept last night and for it to end like this - we didn't deserve this ending. Unfortunately that's football," the Brazilian captain told TV Globo.

"We have to apologise to those who supported us against Germany and Netherlands. They booed us at the end but that's completely normal because they have feelings too.

"It's a big disappointment to go home and tell your family that you didn't make it. It's tough."

Scolari refused to comment on reports that he could be sacked following his team's display at the World Cup.
