Brighton and Cardiff both have chances to open the deadlock, but enter the break goalless after an entertaining first half at the Amex Stadium.

Both Brighton & Hove Albion and Cardiff City failed to convert a handful of first-half opportunities as they entered the break goalless at the Amex Stadium.

The Bluebirds had the better of the earlier chances, but Heidar Helguson could not add to his League Cup goal last week as he blazed over from close range.

Seagulls striker Craig McKail-Smith was on hand to save his side shortly after as he cleared Mark Hudson's header off the line.

Craig Noone was a constant threat down the Seagulls right and twice created openings for Gus Poyet's hosts to take the lead.

His superb cross presented Ashley Barnes with a fine chance to put Brighton in front, but the midfielder headed over from eight yards.

Minutes before the break, Noone fashioned a chance for himself by cutting in from the right and shooting at goal, only to be smartly denied by David Marshall.
