Malky Mackay sees bright England future for Steven Caulker

Malky Mackay says that Steven Caulker can cement his place in the England squad if he performs well for Cardiff City.

Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay believes that Steven Caulker can stake his claim in the England team after making the move to South Wales.

The 21-year-old centre-back, who scored in his only appearance for the Three Lions against Sweden in November, joined the Bluebirds in an £8m deal from Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

"He is in the England squad at the moment and he could be England's future number one centre-half annd he can progress here towards that," Mackay told the South Wales Echo. "We're delighted he has committed to us."

Caulker spent the 2011-12 season on loan at Cardiff's bitter rivals Swansea City.
