Chelsea beat Galatasaray to reach Champions League quarter-finals

Chelsea secure a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Schalke 04 at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League following a 2-0 win over Galatasaray at Stamford Bridge this evening.

Having drawn 1-1 in the first leg, the home side made a quick start, taking the lead just four minutes after kickoff as Oscar played the ball in for Samuel Eto'o to fire low under Fernando Muslera in the Galatasaray goal.

Didier Drogba tried to find the equaliser against his former club for the visitors, and appealed for a penalty when he thought that Cesar Azpilicueta had handled the ball, but the referee disagreed.

The Turkish side's best chance of the first half fell to Felipe Melo, but his shot from the edge of the box finished well wide.

Jose Mourinho's men doubled their advantage just before half time when John Terry tried to force the ball in from a corner, before Gary Cahill slotted it home with the rebound.

Oscar looked to put the result beyond doubt just a couple of minutes after the restart as he evaded several defenders, but could not get his shot away.

Chelsea's dominance continued as Frank Lampard played the ball through for Willian, who was denied by a solid save from Muslera.

Oscar and Lampard continued to pose a threat as the Brazilian sent a cross in for his teammate later in the half, only for the England international to head the ball straight to Muslera.

Azpilicueta had a chance to add Chelsea's third inside the final 10 minutes, but curled his shot high, while Eden Hazard had a late shot saved, but the hosts did enough to progress 3-1 on aggregate.
