Half-Time Report: Chelsea two up at Swindon Town

Goals from Fernando Torres and Ramires put Chelsea on their way to the fourth round of the League Cup.

Two goals in five minutes from Fernando Torres and Ramires have given Chelsea the lead away to Swindon Town in the League Cup.

The League One side started with little fear as they looked to work Chelsea's defence in the opening minutes and compete with the Premier League outfit.

Jose Mourinho's side were dealt an early blow when youngster Marco van Ginkel was forced off with a knee injury after falling awkwardly after only six minutes.

David Luiz, who had struggled for regular first-team opportunities since the start of the season, who scored from a free kick with Swindon keeper Wes Foderingham needing to be equal to it.

The Robins continued to pose a challenge to their opponents as Chelsea endured a quiet start in attack with few clear opportunities.

That almost changed when Fernando Torres was played through by Juan Mata, but Foderingham kept the Spaniard out.

On 29 minutes, Torres finally found a way through after Mata's shot was tipped away by Foderingham but the striker netted the rebound from a tight angle.

Minutes later, the former Liverpool forward supplied substitute Ramires who neatly lifted the ball over the Swindon keeper.

Jose Mourinho has fond memories of this competition, with the League Cup providing him with his first piece of silverware as Chelsea manager back in 2005.
