Cahill: 'Chelsea have right character'

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill says that his side are showing the "right characteristics" in their football, following Saturday's draw with Liverpool.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has said that his side are showing the "right characteristics" in their football, similar to the ones that saw the Blues clinch the Premier League title last season.

Antonio Conte's side achieved 30 wins last term - a record in a Premier League campaign - as the Italian took Chelsea to a fifth crown.

The London club are currently 11 points behind leaders Manchester City this season, and Cahill made the comments following the 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield, in which Willian's chip cancelled out Mohamed Salah's opener.

"It was bad luck on our part in terms of the ball came across the box and touched one of our players and with the run Salah is on at the moment, it just fell straight to his feet," Cahill told the Evening Standard.

"So from our point of view it was disappointing, because I thought we defended quite solidly generally, and maybe a bit fortunate for them, but you could say the same about ours.

"But we're showing the right characteristics - the ones we had last season. We've got lots of games coming up and [Anfield] is clearly a difficult place to come, so we take the point and we'll keep going."

Chelsea face a busy end to the year, with top-flight fixtures against the likes of Swansea City, Southampton and Stoke City to come.
