Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur fines reduced

The FA announces that both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have had their fines reduced following their fiery Premier League London derby in May.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have both had their fines reduced following their fiery Premier League encounter in May.

The Blues came from two goals down to end Tottenham's title hopes at Stamford Bridge in a match that also saw a number of clashes between both sets of players and 12 yellow cards dished out.

Both clubs were charged with three counts of failing to control their players, although the fines have now been reduced by £85,000 for Chelsea and £50,000 for Spurs.

"An appeal board has reduced the fines issued to Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in relation to events at Stamford Bridge on May 2, 2016," read a statement from the FA.

"Following the game, both clubs were charged by the FA with failing to control their players and officials. An independent regulatory commission ordered that Chelsea be fined £375,000 and Tottenham Hotspur £225,000 after taking into consideration previous similar breaches of FA rules.

"However, following an appeal board hearing the fines have been reduced to £290,000 and £175,000 respectively. It remains that both clubs have been warned as to their future conduct."

The London derby, which ended 2-2, also saw Mousa Dembele slapped with a six-match ban for putting his hands to the face of Diego Costa.
