Dietmar Hamann thinks that it would be "great" for Liverpool if Rafael Benitez returned to the club in the future.

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes that the club would make a "great" appointment in bringing Rafael Benitez back to Anfield.

The Chelsea interim manager has been quoted as saying that he will "almost certainly" return to the club he took charge of for six years.

While Hamann believes that Benitez would be warmly welcomed by the Liverpool faithful, the retired midfielder has insisted that current Reds boss Brendan Rodgers deserves time to make his mark on Merseyside.

Hamann wrote on Twitter: "Would be great to see Rafa back at Anfield one day but Brendan needs all the support now to turn things round and get back in CL next season."

Benitez revealed earlier this season that he will leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.
