Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca acknowledges he held a contrasting opinion over how Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke performed against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has demanded that Mykhaylo Mudryk provide "more quality" after an ineffective performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Mudryk was handed a surprise role in the starting lineup for the fixture at Molineux having also failed to impress against Servette in the Europa Conference League.

The occasion will be remembered for a second-half hat-trick from Noni Madueke, taking the game away from the hosts after they had twice equalised in the opening 45 minutes, as Chelsea ultimately prevailed by a 6-2 scoreline.

After failing to start either of the first two games under Maresca, Madueke now appears to have promoted himself to first choice on the right flank.

Work to do for Mudryk

However, it appears to be a different story for Mudryk with Maresca refusing to hold back regarding being dissatisfied with his contribution in the West Midlands, leading to his half-time withdrawal.

In his post-match press conference, as quoted by football.london, Maresca said: "I was not happy. I think in some moments we can manage some situations better.

"He was working very hard off the ball and that was very good. But in terms of on the ball, I expect a bit more quality from Misha.

"For me, he had some good moments the other day and some good moments today and the reason why was just because we needed to change and give Pedro [Neto] some minutes."

Maresca impressed by Madueke

Madueke's efforts in the final third naturally attracted the headlines, taking his tally to four for the season after also netting versus Servette.

Nevertheless, Maresca hinted that it was his work off the ball that caught his eye as he bids to turn the England Under-21 international into a more rounded player.

The Italian added: "I can judge Noni's performance - it was fantastic. Not only the second half but also the first half, he was always one-v-one creating something.

"From day one I've said he is the kind of winger I really like. He is working really well for us. The best thing today from Noni was not his hat-trick but the way he defended. 90 minutes, that showed the right mentality that I'm demanding from the players."

Chelsea face two more matches before the international break, starting with the second leg of their Europa Conference League playoff tie versus Servette on Thursday night.
