Eddie Newton admits that he would be unable to turn down an offer to continue working at Chelsea beyond the end of the season.

Eddie Newton has admitted that he would be unable to turn down an offer to continue working at Chelsea beyond the end of the season.

The 40-year-old was brought in by caretaker manager Roberto Di Matteo following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.

The Blues have, so far, responded well to Di Matteo's arrival, winning all three games including the sensational second-leg turnaround against Napoli on Wednesday.

The positive upturn in form has led to mild speculation that the Italian could be offered the job permanently and, while Di Matteo has remained tight-lipped over the idea, Newton has revealed that he would jump at the chance to stay.

"I don't think I could turn it down, but I have to get there first," said Newton.

"Let's get to the end of the season and then we'll see from there.

"At the end of the day, I'm enjoying it for what it is. I know what my remit is and it's as simple as that."

As well as working together at West Bromwich Albion, Di Matteo and Newton were teammates at Stamford Bridge in 1997 when the side lifted the FA Cup.
