Ex-Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole insists that his former club would be crazy to let Frank Lampard leave on a free transfer this summer.

Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has declared that it would be "unbelievable" if Frank Lampard is not offered a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard's current deal with the Blues expires this summer and despite a fine run of form, the England international is yet to be offered fresh terms.

Cole believes that if Lampard is available on a free this summer, then the 35-year-old will receive a string of offers from across Europe.

He told Absolute Radio: "To be honest with you, if Frank [Lampard]'s out of contract, the way he's playing, all the top clubs in Europe are going to be queuing up.

"It's unbelievable if he doesn't get offered a deal really, because he's still one of the top midfielders in Europe.

"And I don't know how many goals he's scored this year, but he just doesn't stop. He's a machine."

The 35-year-old is now just two goals away from equalling Bobby Tambling's record as all-time top goalscorer at Chelsea.
