Didier Drogba to hold Chelsea contract talks this week

Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck says that Champions League hero Didier Drogba will hold contract talks with the club later this week.

Chelsea are to hold contract talks with Champions League hero Didier Drogba this week.

The Ivorian played a pivotal role in the Blues' first success in the elite European competition by equalising two minutes from time before dispatching the winning penalty in the shootout.

The striker, 34, is out of contract this summer but Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck told Sky Sports News that discussions will be held this week.

Buck said: "Didier is a big match player and he did it once again.

"He's a good guy, a great player."

Asked whether his winning penalty was his last kick in a Chelsea shirt, Buck replied: "Ron (Gourlay, Chelsea Chief Executive) is going to sit down with his agent this week and we'll see how it goes.

"We have to do what's best for Chelsea football club and Didier has to do what's best for him."

Drogba has been at the club for eight years since signing from Marseille for £24m in 2004.
