Mauricio Pochettino: 'Luke Shaw not leaving'

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino insists that defender Luke Shaw will not be leaving the club during the January transfer window.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that defender Luke Shaw will not be sold during the January transfer window.

The 18-year-old full-back has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea since the start of the season, while other clubs are also thought to be monitoring the youngster.

However, Pochettino has made it clear that Shaw will be staying at the club for now.

"It is a very clear situation," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "The player wants to stay, the club is not willing to sell.

"What we also need to consider is that he is an 18-year-old player, that he is still maturing, still progressing. He is still learning how to be an experienced player.

"We need to be very calm about the situation. It has taken his some time to mature as a player and I think all these rumours and all this speculation around him is not beneficial for him. I think it is negative for him."

Southampton return to Premier League action on Boxing Day when they make the trip to Cardiff City.
