Paris Saint-Germain reportedly intend to rival Chelsea in the race to sign RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku.

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly identified RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku as a potential transfer target.

Nkunku is no stranger to life at Parc des Princes after coming through the academy system before going on to make 78 appearances in the first team.

However, the versatile attacker has dramatically enhanced his reputation at RB Leipzig, establishing himself as one of the most sought-after players in Europe.

The 24-year-old enjoyed the season of his career in 2021-22, contributing a remarkable 35 goals and 20 assists from 52 outings in all competitions.

While Nkunku is yet to replicate those numbers this term, Chelsea have already made a sustained attempt to secure the player's signature.

During his stint as sporting director during the summer transfer window, owner Todd Boehly played a part in the player undergoing a medical ahead of a move to Stamford Bridge in 2023.

The Blues are also allegedly prepared to meet Nkunku's release clause and there is currently an expectation that a transfer to the Premier League giants will materialise.

However, according to Fichajes, PSG are eager to secure a reunion with one of their former players at the end of the season.

Although the Ligue 1 leaders currently possess the most feared front three in world football, there are considerable doubts over the long-term futures of Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.

Despite Mbappe denying that he is unhappy with life at PSG, speculation will continue to persist that the Frenchman will look to move elsewhere in one of the upcoming transfer windows.

Meanwhile, Messi has less than a year remaining on his contract and there has been talk that a reunion with Barcelona could happen if an agreement can be made over finances.

While there is a scenario that both players could start 2023-24 in the same team, club officials will feel obliged to assess the alternatives at this time.

Nkunku's release clause is said to stand at £52.8m, a fee approximately four times higher than PSG received for his signature back in 2019.
